Obituary for Derrick Elawn Hayes

Reflections......

Derrick Elawn Hayes was born in Waco, TX on December 4, 1983 to Theodore Hayes and Carla Crenshaw. Being a military child, Derrick moved often and lived in a multitude of cities around the world, from Washington, to spending 7 years in Germany, and then back to Texas. Derrick’s father was finally stationed in Fort Carson, CO where Derrick graduated from Fountain Fort Carson High School in 2001.

Derrick was exceptionally intelligent, he had one of the highest ASVAB scores in all the state in 2007. He was also a great athlete, he played basketball in Spain when he was 11 years old and also played all through high school. His love for sports carried through adulthood as he played in the semi-pro flag football league and by being one off the biggest Dallas Cowboys fans ever! Derrick also loved spending time working on cars, especially his beloved white bubble Chevy Caprice. Derrick had a heart as big as his 6’4 frame. Everyone always knew they were welcomed to his home for some of his famous BBQ or to just hang out and have a good time.

Derrick’s greatest accomplishments were his three children, Deroneka Hayes, Dertavion Hayes, and Tyree Phillips-Price. He absolutely adored his children, and prayed that no matter the distance, his children knew how much he loved them unconditionally.
Derrick is survived by his parents, Theodore Hayes (Lorna) and Carla Crenshaw, Grandfather, James Mitchell Sr., siblings, Trina Bryant, Jerone Bryant, Royce Holmes, Mariah Hayes, Czarina Hayes, Annabelle Mier, Jermaine Bambynek, and step brothers Daniel Crookham, and Christian Crookham; girlfriend, Alice Miller the love of his life, whom he was looking forward to marrying and spending the rest of his life with; along with numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Derrick had a magnetic personality, an infectious laugh, and a comedic sense of humor. He had the best Harlem Shake dance moves anyone has ever seen! He will truly be missed by so many. Condolences may be shared by visiting www.angelusfuneraldirectors.com
