Obituary for Ben Pollard Jr.

BEN POLLARD JR.
January 1, 1940 - December 16, 2018

Ben Pollard Jr. was born to Ben Pollard and Eliza Overstreet Pollard in Baton Rouge, Louisiana on January 1, 1940 and he was called home on December 16, 2018.
Ben married his love and best friend, Shirley Warren on June 17, 1961 in Big Spring, Texas. They were blessed with three children: one son and two daughters, Darryl, Michelle and Robin. He was preceded in death by his mother, Eliza Overstreet Pollard, father Ben Pollard; his daughter, Michelle Pollard.

Mr. Pollard attended Southern University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and he earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Regis University and Webster University respectively.
Ben was a Vietnam Veteran who served in the United States Air Force for 21 years. He retired from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant. While in the Air Force, he received numerous commendations and awards. After retiring from the Air Force, Ben continued to serve his country as a Civil Service Worker in Procurement at Peterson AFB and United States Postal Carrier. In addition to his civil service, he was also an instructor at Colorado Technical College and entrepreneur.

Ben was a faithful servant of God. Upon moving to Colorado Springs in 1968, he joined St. John’s Baptist Church where he sang in the choir and served on the Auxiliary Board. Ben joined Greater Tri-Rock Missionary Church in 1989, where he was ordained as a Deacon, served as the Chairman of the Deacon Board and continued to sing in the choir.
Deacon Pollard loved God. He loved and cherished his family. He loved sports (especially football). Ben was always there to support his family friends and lend a helping hand. He was a father and a father-figure, a brother, an uncle, an advisor, a counselor, a leader, a motivator, an inspiration, and a friend. In the community, he was a proud member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated. Ben’s trademark smile, his sense of humor and his sincerity will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He leaves to cherish his memories, his beloved wife of 57 years, Shirley Pollard; son, Darryl Pollard; daughter, Robin Coward; son-in-law, Trent Coward; sister, Geraldine Sparrow; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

A visitation will be held Thursday, December 27, 2018 between the hours of 5:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at Angelus Chapel, 1104 S. Circle Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80910.
